Frequently Asked Questions

Consignor Questions:

How much can I earn by consigning with Katie's Klothesline?

You have the opportunity to earn from 65-80% of your sale price.

Who determines the prices?

The consignor sets their own price when entering their items into the Katie's Klothesline website. We do have a minimum price of $2.50 per item.

Why is there a minimum price?

We set a minimum price to help ensure the quality of the merchandise we will be selling. If the item is not worth $2.50 to the shopper then we ask that you do not consign it with us.

Is there a limit to the amount of items that I may consign?

We have a minimum limit of 25 items and a maximum limit of 116 items. You may consign more than 116 items, but we ask that you get another consignor number (which will also incur an additional consignor fee). You may register for as many consignor numbers as you like.

What is the fee to be a consignor?

We have a consignor fee of $10.00.

Why are we charged a fee?

The consignor fee is to help with the cost of the sale itself, i.e. rent, advertising, supplies, etc.

Do I have to stay at the event?

We operate the event for you. Your job as a consignor is to prepare your items for the event, price them and drop them off. If you choose to help us work the event by volunteering, then you will be obligated to work whichever shift you choose.

When do I get paid?

Most consignors will receive their checks on Pick-up Day, which is the day after the event is over. If you have earned other incentives which, in turn, earned you a higher percentage of your sales, your check may have to be mailed to you, but it will be mailed during that next week.

Why don't you accept walk-in consignors?

Our sale is operated on a computerized bar-coding system. We have to enforce a deadline to have all items entered by the time we are open for business. Once we upload all pricing information, we are not able to enter any more items for pricing.

Why do you guarantee the consignor's items and what does that really mean?

We go the extra mile to guarantee your items against loss or theft. If you are a 'guaranteed' consignor, and an item is lost in our care, then we will pay you 65% of the price you set for the item. We want our consignors to be happy consignors.

How should I price my items?

We ask that each consignor follow the guideline of 25-35% of the original price of the item.

Should I go through the trouble of ironing my clothes?

Presentation is key to selling your item. Wrinkled clothes do not sell, and we will not accept extremely wrinkled clothes. We will also NOT ACCEPT clothes with any kind of odor. We cannot accept clothes that have smoke or pet odors, pet hair, or are not clean and in good condition. This is not fair to the other consignors who have taken great care in preparing their items.

Can I bring someone with me to help me shop at the Pre-Sale event?

We will allow you to bring your husband or mother with you to help you shop during the consignor shopping time. We will also give you an extra guest pass to allow a friend of yours to shop at the guest pass time slot which will be later in the day. You may shop with your friend during that time.

Can I bring my kids with me to the Pre-sale?

Due to problems we have had in the past with children being allowed to do as they please in our store, we are asking that arrangements be made for child care. I know that this is a great inconvenience to some of you, but since we guarantee the consignors' items, we had to make this decision. You are welcome to bring your children with you on one of the public shopping days, but please also monitor them. If you must bring your baby or 'immobile' child, we ask that you wear them such as in a sling.

Do I have to bring my items on hangers? and if so, will I get them back?

You must bring your clothing items on hangers so that they can be displayed in a proper manner. We sell items on their hangers. Any unsold items will be returned to you on their hangers. You may either purchase hangers at a discount store such as a dollar store or Walmart. Stores such as Target, Old Navy and Walmart will give away their hangers that were removed from their clothing throughout the day. They usually just throw them out anyway. Get in the habit of asking for your hangers when you shop at these stores just for the specific purpose of consigning with us.
