What is a Consignment Sale and How Does it Work?:

A consignment sale is different than a consignment store.  A consignment store gives you a flat fee when you turn in your merchandise, and they make a larger profit on your merchandise. Or, some consignment stores may give you 50% of the final sale of the item, but who knows when that item will sell. 

With a consignment sale you can make up to 70% of the sale of your item with additional benefits.  You may also volunteer your time to the sale in 4 hour shifts to earn the opportunity to shop earlier than the general public.  This way, you have first choice of the items up for sale.   By simply consigning with Katie’s Klothesline you will have the opportunity to shop before the sale is open to the public.  But, by volunteering to work a 4 hour shift, you get to shop even earlier at the Worker’s Sale.  It gets better.... if you volunteer to work two 4-hour shifts, you earn the right to shop at the Early Worker’s Sale. A consignment sale is generally run by volunteer help who cares about the prospect of buying quality clothes at a fair price.  The sale will last 3 days with days spent prior to the sale taking in items and arranging them in a manner that is easily viewed and shopper friendly.  The days after the sale are spent breaking down the sale, and there will be a pick-up day.  This is the day that you will pick up any remaining items that have not sold and your check for your percentage earned.  If you wish, any remaining items may be donated to charity.  This option you will designate when you key your items in using our state-of-the-art bar coding system.

The bar coding system that we use has sped up the process of pricing your items dramatically.  Most sales around the country still use the infamous 3x5 index card to price your item.  You spend much of your time writing out your prices and descriptions by hand.
