Thinking about donating your leftover items?
After the close of every Katie's Klothesline Event you have 2 options for your remaining items. You can pick them up and try again at the next event if the items are acceptable for the next season or you can donate them to a deserving charity.
After the close of the last day of business KK volunteers get busy sorting all remaining items on the selling room floor. This is possibly the most important job we have for volunteers. During this process what we do first is pull the items that are designated for donation.
Each consignor has the opportunity to donate any or all of their items that did not sell during the actual event. Designating an item for donation is very easy, and is done three different ways:
When pricing your items for consignment on our website you are asked to price each item and describe it, but before that item is actually entered into the system you are asked one final question before you close out your list or batch. You are asked about donation. You can choose to donate all, some or none of your items. If you choose to donate none of your items, your items will be sorted neatly for you to pick up on Pick-Up day (Sunday) along with your earnings. At that time, when you see what did not sell, you also have the opportunity to place any unwanted items in the designated donation area before you leave. If you are unable to pick up your items due to an unforeseen conflict or you simply forget about picking up your items, then ANY leftover items still on the selling room floor that have not been claimed automatically go to donation, and your check is mailed to you.
We have donated to many charities in the Corpus Christi Area as well as some that are further away, but all have been for the benefit of children.

We have also donated to local families that we have known that were in need.
On Pick-Up day when you pick up your leftover items and receive your check for your earnings, or if your check is mailed, you will also receive a sales inventory list. This list tells you which items sold and at what price (if they were full price or half price if you chose that option) not including tax. If you selected donate this will also be reflected on that list. Then you may use this list as a receipt for tax purposes.
So you can see it is a Win-Win situation for everyone! Someone in need is helped, the consignor gets the tax write-off and a warm feeling knowing that they helped someone, and the volunteer doesn't have to sort as many items! YAY!
